Parents need to monitor their children's academic progress. With 30 or more students in a class, it is not possible for teachers to regularly make contact with each parent to talk about their child's progress. In room 19 we have an internet gradebook so that parents can see their child's progress throughout the year. Parents can see what work is turned in and what is missing, what test scores are in different areas, and what the likely grade is for each subject.
To check the gradebook, you need to provide me with your email address. Since adult handwriting is difficult often difficult to decipher and one little dot can make the difference between a valid and invalid address, the best way to get grade book access is to send an email requesting it. Send it to jbasse1@lausd.net. You will receive an email from TeacherEase, the web service we use at Third Street for our online grade book with a password. Normally this is four numbers. You can change it to something you more easily remember. Your email address will be your user name.
I also want to emphasize that the grade shown online are the lowest possible grade a child can receive. I reserve the right to up a grade for the report card. So, for example, as student might have a 71 percent average in math. On the grade book, this would be a "2". But as the teacher, I might observe that this was the result of one particularly bad test and that more recent assessments showed significantly better work and decide to give the child a "3" on the report card. But it will NOT work the other way. If a student has a "3" on the gradebook, he or she will definitely not receive a "2" on the report card.
